When you finish you will be able to
Design a test that separates the cause from everything else that changes, and draw conclusions from the data.
What you learn
- Write a hypothesis that a test can refute, and name the factor, the response, the controlled variables and the uncontrolled ones.
- Separate the effects of two changes with tests that differ in a single variable.
- Plan a test with levels, repetitions, a randomized order and a criterion written before measuring.
- Analyze the data with average, half-range, graph, slope and, in a 2 × 2 factorial, effects and interaction.
- Write a five-part conclusion that someone else can check and repeat.
Who it is for
Young people aged 16 to 24 who study engineering or a technical trade and already know how to measure and record, and how to use proportions and straight lines. Examples from electrical work, with batteries and a graphite pencil.
