When you finish you will be able to
Draw a part with the views and dimensions someone needs to make it without asking you.
What you learn
- Choose the minimum views that show a part without ambiguity and place them according to the stated projection method.
- Draw each view with the right line for what is visible, what is hidden and the centre lines.
- Dimension a part with each feature dimensioned once, with its unit, and with a tolerance on the functional dimensions.
- Choose a recommended scale so that the part fits on the sheet, and convert between real size and size on paper.
- Hand a drawing to someone else and check, by measuring, that the part they made matches the dimensions.
Who it is for
Young people aged 16 to 24 studying engineering or a technical trade. Builds on “Measuring and recording” and “Reading in depth and writing”. Examples from electrical work.
