When you finish you will be able to
Write the specification of what you are going to design before you draw the solution.
What you learn
- Tell apart, in a request, the function, the requirements, the constraints and the solutions disguised as requirements.
- Rewrite a vague wish as a verifiable requirement, with “shall”, a number, a unit, a limit and a verification method.
- Check with a calculation, before building, whether an idea meets a requirement for battery life, mass or cost.
- Compare two solutions that meet the same specification by their whole-life cost, health and the waste they leave.
- Write the specification of your own design, for a real user, before drawing the solution.
Who it is for
Students aged 16 to 24 who are studying engineering and can already write down the assumptions of a model and design a simple test. Examples from electrical engineering, all battery-powered.
