When you finish you will be able to
Get others to deliver their part on the agreed date without being their boss.
What you learn
- Write the goal of a group project stating what is delivered, to whom, when, and an acceptance criterion that another person can check.
- Split the work into parts, each with a single owner, its completion criterion, its date and the interface that connects it to the others.
- Calculate, forward and backward from the delivery date, the earliest finish, the latest finish and the slack of each part, and identify the chain that sets the deadline.
- Close an agreement with each member that includes their explicit yes, and record it in a log the whole group can see.
- Detect a delay at a checkpoint using a teammate's pace, and solve it without giving orders: ask, remove the blocker, add slack, renegotiate and, only at the end, escalate.
Who it is for
Young people aged 16 to 24 who work in groups at school, at a technical institute, at university or in their first job. It builds on “Communicating to any audience” and “Owning your part”. Examples from electrical engineering, always with battery circuits.
